Great Lakes Downs: Valley Loot best

EmailValley Loot probably claimed the Michigan horse of the year title Saturday when she won the 3-year-old filly division of the Michigan Sire Stakes at Great Lakes Downs. The six races, for the progeny of Michigan sires, were each worth approximately $125,000.

Valley Loot ($2.80) won her fifth race and fourth stakes of the year under jockey Mike Allen for trainer Ronnie Allen. She put up a time of 1:49.90 for the 1 1/16 miles.

Hot Chili ($3), with Jareth Loveberry aboard, won the juvenile stakes. His six-furlong time was 1:14.70. Equalitysdebutante ($5.20) won the juvenile fillies division under Ricky Knott in 1:14.35.

J.P.'s Big Boy ($3.40) won the 3-year-old male division in his first race over the Great Lakes surface. Jockey Mary Doser roused him to a head victory, stopping the timer in 1:49.33 for 1 1/16 miles.

Nell's Enjoyment ($4.80) won her second Sire Stakes, with Tommy Molina guiding her over nine furlongs in 1:55.80 in the older females division.

Facing 4-year-olds and up, Meadow Vespers ($6.80) beat favored Rockem Sockem by a half-length to win his third Sire Stakes, going 1 1/8 miles in 1:54.78 under Ivan Gonzalez.
