Great Lakes Downs track report

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Cats Copy, winner of the Regret Stakes here in May, is back in town looking for her third Great Lakes Downs stakes victory in Friday's $40,000 Plymouth Stakes. The Plymouth, in its 20th edition, is for 3-year-old Michigan-bred fillies at seven furlongs. It will be the fifth race on the eight-race card, which gets under way at 6:30 p.m.

Dale Bennett trains Cats Copy for Dacmit Inc. A daughter of Cat's Career, Cats Copy finished fourth, beaten less than two lengths, in her last start, the Double Delta at Arlington Park, where she is based. She has won three of her six starts at Great Lakes Downs, including last year's Michigan Juvenile Fillies.

Leading rider Terry Houghton will break Cats Copy from post 5 in the field of eight.

Bennett has also entered Smart Link in the Plymouth. Bennett's father, Gerald, the leading trainer at this meet, has entered the trio of Gold Ginny, Deb's Favoite Gift, and Lunes Grito.

The Plymouth field, with riders, from the rail out: Stellar One, Mary Doser; Lunes Grito, Jason Tervort; Deb's Favoite Gift, Bobby Lester; Gift of April, Felipe Santos; Cats Copy, Houghton; Smart Link, Victor Ramirez; Gold Ginny, Roberto Perez; and Zes Tee, Colin Skinner. All starters will carry 120 pounds.

* Terry Houghton, who missed the first two weeks of the meet, is now in first place in the rider standings. Houghton has 53 wins, four more than Freddie Mata. Mata is expected to be out of action for another three weeks because of a training accident two weeks ago that resulted in ankle surgery.
