Great Lakes Downs track report


Its His Time took over the top of the handicap ranks at Great Lakes Downs with a decisive 1 1/2-length victory in the Michigan Breeders' Handicap on Tuesday evening.

It was his seventh win in 10 attempts over the local course and came at the expense of 2005 Michigan horse of the year Rockem Sockem. Meadow Vespers was a head back in third after a late rally.

Its His Time ($3.80), owned by the Volar Corporation, is trained by Ronnie Allen. Mike Allen, the son of the trainer, is the regular rider. The 4-year-old Its His Time earned $30,000 for the win, pushing his total bankroll to just shy of $200,000.

The Breeders' Handicap was his third win of the season. Overall, Its His Time has won five stakes at Great Lakes. Its His Time was bred by Campbell Stables. Jerry Campbell is the principal owner of Volar Corporation and Campbell Stables.

* Longtime racing official Tom Griffin has returned from retirement to fill in this meet as the assistant racing secretary. Griffin, who grew up in a racetrack family, was a steward at Detroit Race Course and at Great Lakes before retiring from that position after the 2003 meeting.
