Great Lakes Downs track report

Demagoguery, the top 2-year-old male last year at Great Lakes Downs, returned here Tuesday evening, crushing four foes to win an allowance race by nearly 12 lengths.

Owned by Mary Mazur and trained by leading trainer Gerald Bennett, Demagoguery was the fourth winner of the night for top rider Terry Houghton. Demagoguery paid $2.60 and creating a minus show pool of more than $250.

Houghton, who has 21 wins here, six more than second-place Roberto Perez, also teamed with Bennett to win the sixth race on Run for You ($9.20). Earlier, he won the second race for trainer Bob Gorham with Witty Factor ($4.20), and the seventh race via disqualification with Always Take Cash, trained by Gary Johnson. Perez escaped injury in the nightcap when his mount, Smoking Logan, ducked in at the top of the stretch. He managed to hang on until other horses passed and he could safely hit the ground. Smoking Logan and Perez both left the track under their own power.

Goran Pavlovic was not so lucky. He was unseated in the gate when Q Private Jette reared before the fifth race. Pavlovic was at the track Wednesday on crutches and said he would be out several weeks with a hairline fracture to his lower leg.
