Great Lakes Downs track report

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Lunes Grito and Deb's Favoite Gift, from the barn of leading trainer Gerald Bennett, should garner most of the attention in Friday's Michigan Oaks. The $50,000 race, to be run at 1 1/16 miles, drew a field of seven 3-year-old Michigan-bred fillies.

Deb's Favoite Gift, owned by Thomas Vanderhyde, was second to Gold Ginny, beaten seven lengths, in the Ann Arbor Stakes a month ago. Leading rider Terry Houghton will ride Friday.

Gene and Phyllis Gilmore's homebred Lunes Grito has yet to win a stakes but was an impressive nonwinners-of-two allowance winner at the end of August. Two starts back she was third in the Ann Arbor Stakes. Luis Martinez Jr. will ride.

Bennett's son, Dale, will saddle Cats Copy, the beaten favorite in the Ann Arbor who won the Regret Stakes here in May. Also in the race are Ambitious Gulch, Circus du Joy, Smart Link, and Textbook Tillie.

* Jockey Joe Judice, who has ridden with much success here the last several seasons, is returning to finish the meet, which concludes Oct. 30, said his agent, Kerry "Bones" Wirth. He will start riding here Friday.
