Great Lakes Downs track report

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Six Michigan-bred 2-year-old fillies will line up Friday evening at Great Lakes Downs to contest the first 2-year-old stakes of the meet, the $45,000 Temptress Stakes.

Foolininthemeadow will be favored in the six-furlong Temptress after easily winning her debut July 25. Left in her wake that day were Musical Factor and Laura's Holiday, each of whom came back to win her next start.

Trainer Karl Waters has named Mary Doser to ride Foolininthe-meadow.

Musical Factor, the expected second choice, is one of two entrants for trainer Gerald Bennett. Leading rider Terry Houghton gets the call. Bennett also entered Holidaisy, who will be ridden by Bobby Lester.

* Rockem Sockem, the top runner on the grounds, is back in training after having surgery Aug. 18 for an entrapped epiglottis. Although he won the Aug. 14 Dowling Stakes here, he failed to display his usual dominance, winning by only a half-length. Trainer Bob Gorham said Rockem Sockem will miss the Frontier Handicap but should be ready for the Mackinac Handicap on Sept. 18.

* Terry Houghton won five races Sunday, and three of his victories came in dramatic fashion. In the first race, he urged Cool Rain Falling to get up in time to dead-heat with Pure Amazement. After winning the third and fifth races, he rallied Tricky Tyler to catch Whozoominwho for another dead heat in the sixth race.

Hazoom finished first in the seventh race, but Houghton lodged an objection and his mount, War Bounty, was elevated to first.

* Luis Martinez Jr. has switched his tack from West Virginia back to Great Lakes Downs. His father, Luis Martinez Sr., is the sixth leading rider here. His uncle Pedro Martinez and cousin Alex Martinez train at Great Lakes.
