Great Lakes Downs: Champ favored

Nell's Enjoyment and Creative Miss, both winners in last year's Michigan Sire Stakes series, are co-highweights at 119 pounds and will face eight other statebred fillies and mares in $50,000-guaranteed Moonbeam Handicap at Great Lakes Downs. The Moonbeam, in its 29th running, is at one mile and is the sixth race on the 6:30 p.m. card.

Nell's Enjoyment, second in the recent Larkspur Handicap, was Michigan's 3-year-old filly champion last year for her owner, trainer, and breeder, Shane Spiess. Installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite for the Moonbeam, Nell's Enjoyment will get the return services of jockey Mary Doser, who will come in from Kentucky to ride.

Creative Miss and Half a Glance are owned by Todd Weddon and trained by Scott Sowle. Both are winless this year away from Great Lakes Downs, but Creative Miss has won 7oof 11 starts at the track, where she was the leading older female last year. Tommy Molina will ride Creative Miss, and Ricardo Barrios will be up on Half a Glance.

Sure Silver, third in the Larkspur for owner Ardis Lelito and trainer Tim Leliti, won her last out, a six-furlong allowance race, in her front-running style. Felipe Santos has the return mount.
