Prominent sire Unbridled's Song recorded the 100th stakes winner and 15th Grade 1 winner of his career when his son Graydar captured the Donn Handicap on Feb. 9 at Gulfstream Park. The 20-year-old Unbridled horse, who stands at Taylor Made Farm in Nicholasville, Ky., is the 27th North American stallion to reach that milestone. He is one of 10 active stallions worldwide to accomplish the feat.

“Unbridled’s Song has been such a great sire, and our entire team at Taylor Made could not be more proud of him for accomplishing such a landmark of 100 stakes winners for a sire,” Taylor Made vice president Ben Taylor said. “I want to thank all of the breeders, owners, trainers and all other horsemen who have shared a hand in Unbridled’s Song’s success.”

Graydar, bred in Kentucky by William S. Farish and campaigned by Twin Creeks Racing Stable, was making his stakes debut in the Donn. The three-length, front-running victory gave the 4-year-old colt three wins from four career starts.

Graydar is out of the winning Dehere mare Sweetest Smile, dam of six winners from seven to race, including multiple Grade 3-placed runners Union Course and Star of David.

Out of the stakes-winning Conquistador Cielo mare Cielo Otono, Sweetest Smile is a half-sister to stakes winner Cielator and stakes producer Cielo Dulce. It is the family of multiple Grade 1 winner Ron the Greek; Grade 2 winner Musket Man, third in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes; and Group 1 winner Mujahid.

Unbridled's Song first burst onto the national scene with a victory in the 1995 Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Wins in the Grade 1 Florida Derby and Grade 2 Wood Memorial Stakes the following spring established him as the post-time favorite for the Kentucky Derby; however, plagued by a quarter crack in the weeks leading up to the race, he finished fifth in the classic. Battling leg injuries, the colt made just four more starts, finishing second in the Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes and later winning the Olympic Handicap in his only start of 1997. He retired to Taylor Made that spring with five wins from 12 career starts for earnings of $1,311,800.

From his first 13 crops to race, Unbridled's Song is the sire of 708 winners for total progeny earnings of $85,749,457 through Feb. 9. His top runners include three Breeders' Cup winners—2001 Distaff winner Unbridled Elaine, 2008 Juvenile winner Midshipman, and 2010 Ladies' Classic winner Unrivaled Belle. Multiple Grade 1 winner Midshipman was voted champion 2-year-old male of 2008.

Unbridled's Song is the sire of multiple Grade 1 winners Octave, Thorn Song, Splendid Blended and Zensational; and Grade 1 winners Political Force, First Defence, Buddha, Emcee, Magnificent Song, Songandaprayer and Marylebone. His 44 graded stakes winners overall also include 2012 Donn Handicap runner-up Mission Impazible, 2012 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint runner-up Unbridled’s Note, 2008 Kentucky Derby runner-up Eight Belles, and multiple Grade 3 winner Embur's Song, winner of the 2011 Sovereign Award as Canada's champion older female.

Unbridled's Song's sons at stud include Songandaprayer, among the leading juvenile sires of 2012; First Defence, who finished 18th on last year's freshman sire list; Half Ours, who ranks among the top 10 general sires in Louisiana; and Even the Score, sire of multiple Grade 1 winner Dullahan. Zensational and Old Fashioned are among the stallions represented by their first runners in 2013; the latter stands alongside his sire at Taylor Made in Nicholasville, Ky.

Out of the winning Caro mare Trolley Song—from the family of Grade 1 winner Seattle Song—Unbridled's Song stands for $60,000 in 2013.
