Grand Lodge euthanized at 11

Grand Lodge - sire of such champions as Sinndar, Grandera, and Indian Lodge - was euthanized Dec. 24 at Woodlands Stud in Australia. An 11-year-old son of Chief's Crown, Grand Lodge had broken his knee in a paddock accident on Sept. 4.

Grand Lodge, England's champion juvenile in 1993, got the English champion Indian Lodge from his first crop to race. He rapidly improved even on that illustrious beginning when his 1997 foal Sinndar won the Epsom and Irish derbies in 2000. Grand Lodge also sired Queen's Logic, the European juvenile filly champion in 2001. A year later, he had another champion in Grandera, winner of three Group 1 races en route to being named Europe's top older runner.

Grand Lodge also sired numerous other stakes winners throughout Australia and Europe.
