Graeme Six pulls away

Graeme Six took command nearing the eighth pole and powered away to a 1 1/2-length victory in the fifth running of the $107,600 Winning Colors Stakes at Churchill Downs.

With Julien Leparoux riding for trainer Tom Amoss, Graeme Six returned $7 as second choice after finishing the six-furlong race in 1:09.17 over a fast track. Miss Macy Sue, the 7-5 favorite in a field of six fillies and mares, rallied late to be second, a head in front of Change Up, who set the pace to midstretch.

Graeme Six, a 4-year-old Florida-bred filly by Graeme Hall, is owned by Johns Martin, Tom O'Grady, and Team West Side Stables. Now a winner in 5 of 14 starts, Graeme Six is enjoying easily her best season yet, having already captured the Pan Zareta and Carousel Stakes earlier this year.

The Winning Colors came an hour or so after Amoss won the USA Stakes at Lone Star Park with Boss Laffite.

Miss Macy Sue, ridden by Eddie Razo Jr., did not have a particularly smooth trip after getting away a bit sluggishly. She ended a $2 exacta worth $17.40. Following Change Up, the rundown in the Winning Colors was Gem Sleuth, Pretty Jenny, and Adhrhythm.
