Grade 2 winner Santiva, who last ran in January, will enter stud at Dana and Gerry Aschinger’s War Horse Place in Lexington, Ky. He’ll have a $7,500 fee.

The 4-year-old Giant’s Causeway colt broke his maiden in the 2010 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, beating Astrology by a half-length. That race made Santiva the first Giant’s Causeway colt to win a graded race at 2 around two turns on the dirt. One race earlier, he finished second behind J.B.’s Thunder in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland. Santiva also was second in the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes last year and later finished sixth in the Kentucky Derby.

Santiva’s last race was in the Jan. 14 Fort Lauderdale Stakes, a Grade 3 race on turf, in which he finished ninth. He retired in April.

Santiva is out of the unraced Smarten mare Slide, who also produced the graded-placed runners Take Arms, who is by Honour and Glory, and Her Majesty, by Giant’s Causeway. Santiva is from the family of champion Safely Kept.
