Grade 1 winner Price Tag retired

EmailPrice Tag, the winner of the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Hollywood Park in 2006, has been retired after suffering a recent injury, trainer Bobby Frankel said Tuesday. The 4-year-old filly has been sent to Kentucky and will be bred in 2007, Frankel said.

Owned by her breeder, Juddmonte Farms, Price Tag won 4 of 13 starts and $689,737.

After winning an allowance race at Santa Anita in March, Price Tag was winless in two stakes at Hollywood Park - a second in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes in May and a third in the Grade 2 CashCall Mile on July 6.

Price Tag was scratched from two stakes at Del Mar this summer - the Grade 1 John Mabee Handicap on Aug. 4 because of colic, and the Palomar Handicap at Del Mar on Sept. 1 after Frankel questioned her fitness.

Frankel did not disclose the nature of Price Tag's injury.

"She had little things," he said. "By the time we'd get her back to the races, it would be breeding season."
