These next two weekends are the calm before the storm that is the Breeders’ Cup, but while many players are already looking ahead to two of racing’s best cards, contest players have a chance to seize the day and qualify for the World Championship of Handicapping. The WCH, as you probably know by now, is a $1 million, no-takeout tournament that will take place online in early 2018. Players can buy in for $5,000 or qualify online. Saturday’s Grade 1 qualifier costs $580, and one in 10 entries will win their $5,000 spots for the WCH. The spots are limited to 200 and are starting to fill fast, so interested players should really start to think about securing their berths in this exciting new event. Horseplayers looking to get involved at a lower price have the option of participating in first-round events every operating day on DRF Tournaments. The first-round qualifiers cost just $95 and advance one in seven entries to the Grade 1. These lower-ratio tournaments have proven popular with players since they reward picking winners and consistent play over simply reaching for prices. The other featured event this weekend is a qualifier Sunday for the Del Mar Fall Challenge. Del Mar’s live-bankroll event takes place the week after the Breeders’ Cup and gives contest aficionados a reason to stay in San Diego for the week after the big event. The buy-in is $4,500, but DRFT players can win that entry fee plus $500 in travel by putting up $580. One in 10 will win grand-prize packages. The site is also offering one-in-seven feeders for Sunday’s event. Players new to the tournament world or those looking to build their online bankrolls for future contest play should also consider the full array of options on the site. There are many low-cost, all-in options (meaning all picks must be in before the scheduled post time of the contest’s first race), including matchups, winner-takes-alls, and credit builders.
