Graceful Klinchit open for challenger

Email

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan - Sunday's feature at Marquis Downs, the $6,000 Graceful Klinchit Handicap for fillies and mares, has drawn a field of six and lacks a true favorite.

With Saskatchewan champion White Cerf having yet to start this season and Matron winner Judge Smiles running Sunday at Northlands Park, the opportunity exists for a new divisional leader to step forward in this one-mile race.

The logical choice here is Truly Remarkable, last year's top Saskatchewan 3-year-old filly with six wins from 11 outings.

Winless this year from four starts, Truly Remarkable closed strongly in the Matron to finish a solid second but could only finish fourth last time out in an allowance prep at this distance.

Walter Ramos Jr. will return to the saddle for the first time since riding Truly Remarkable to three straight stakes wins last year.

Princess Briartic, winner of the allowance prep and a stakes winner at 2 and 3, sports good tactical speed and should find herself stalking likely pacesetter Marfa Magic.

Leading rider Isiah Sala gets the call on Princess Briartic, who will be looking for her third win of the season.

Also worth consideration is Regal Illusion, who was claimed for $15,000 from a winning effort at Northlands Park on June 29. Serge Rocheleau rides.

Completing the field will be Scarey Berry Pie and Rancho Rose.
