Graceful Klinchit a family affair

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan - Five fillies and mares will contest the one-mile Graceful Klinchit Handicap here at Marquis Downs on Friday evening. The $6,000 handicap is named in honor of the early 1990's runner who became the winningest mare in Saskatchewan history.

There are two daughters of "Gracie" - Picture the Answer and Danz Gracefully - competing in this event, and both of them could make their presence felt.

Picture the Answer is a multiple stakes winner who has competed with the best of the locals throughout her five-year career, with 7 wins and 23 in-the-money finishes from 31 starts.

Picture the Answer does her best running at seven furlongs to a mile, as seen by her allowance score at a mile three weeks ago and her second- and third-place finishes at seven-eighths in her previous starts.

It took Danz Gracefully until her 16th start to win her maiden, but she has run through her conditions in just three subsequent outings. Danz Gracefully won handily in each of her three victories, all in quick times at six furlongs.

Brite Steel will be trying to steal the race and should be tough to catch given her 2006 record of 3 wins and 6 in-the-money finishes from 6 outings. With wins at four, six, and seven furlongs, Brite Steel is an adept front-runner, but she did wilt in the stretch last time out and finished five lengths in arrears of Picture the Answer.

Hello Dear moves up to the stakes ranks for rookie trainer Chris Babiy after having won three straight. Her last win came against $6,000 claimers over six furlongs, and before that she won at a mile.

Lasting Asset has two conditional allowance victories plus a second-place finish last time out versus Picture the Answer and Brite Steel.
