ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Gouldings Green ($3.60) shipped in from Saratoga to capture the Grade 3, $151,600 at Woodbine Sunday. After breaking from post 1, Gouldings Green assumed an inside stalking position in the mile and a sixteenth route over the inner track. Longshots Northern Candy and Roving Angel vied up front, and the latter took control on the far turn after fractions of :22.78 and :46.94 seconds. Gouldings Green overhauled Roving Angel at the eighth pole, and went on to score by two and a quarter lengths over a closing Ever So Free. Barbeau Ruckus finished third after a wide journey, and Roving Angel faded to fourth in the nine-horse field. The final time was 1:42.76 seconds. "I hustled him away from the rail post, and was able to sit in the pocket," said Corey Lanerie, who rode Gouldings Green. "Going down the backside, I got a little worried that the horses up front might stop in my face, but I was able to wiggle my way through. Once he saw daylight, he proved that he was the best horse." Gouldings Green earned $90,000 for Melnyk Racing Stable and trainer Tony Reinstedler.
