Got the jock right here

As the man with the most training titles in Turfway Park history, Bernie Flint can usually get whatever jockey he wants to ride his horses.

That explains why Flint frequently has whomever the hottest rider happens to be at Turfway aboard many of his horses. Through the years, names such as Willie Martinez, Tracy Hebert, Dean Kutz, Tony D'Amico and Kris Prather were closely associated with the Flint stable at times when those jockeys were leading the Turfway standings.

The jockey with all the momentum now at Turfway is Jason Lumpkins, the former Cleveland and northern California standout who moved to Kentucky in November. Lumpkins already has had five five-win days at the winter-spring meet which began Jan. 1, and is on pace easily to be the leading rider when the meet closes April 3.

Predictably, Lumpkins has been named with regularity aboard Flint's horses, and it should come as no surprise that he will ride Seven Four Seven for Flint in the Saturday feature at Turfway, the $50,000 Likely Exchange Stakes.

Seven Four Seven, a 5-year-old mare owned by Sam Pollock, easily won the Jan. 19 prep for the Likely Exchange and thus figures as one of the favorites in the one-mile race.

Seven Four Seven has won 7 of 29 starts, and her best effort probably would be good enough to carry her to victory Saturday.

Town Queen, probably Seven Four Seven's most dangerous rival, had the misfortune of drawing the far outside post in the field of 11 fillies and mares. Trained by William "Buff" Bradley for an ownership group that includes the trainer and his father, Fred, Town Queen won the Dec. 31 My Charmer Stakes at Turfway in her most recent start.

Fringe contenders include Mystics Blue Rose, a winner of her last two starts, both at Turfway; Wealthy Belongings, who was third behind Seven Four Seven in the Jan. 19 prep; and Suddenly Gone, the My Charmer runner-up.

The Likely Exchange, named for G. Watts Humphrey's star racemare of the mid-1970's, is the ninth of 12 races on a Saturday card that also includes two allowances (races 7 and 8). First post is 1:10 p.m. Eastern.
