Got Country Grip goes for 15 in row

EmailGot Country Grip, a paint horse who is undefeated in 14 career starts, will return from a near six-month layoff in the $20,000 Olympia Joe Paint and Appaloosa Handicap at Lone Star Park.

He is the 130-pound highweight in the 400-yard race, spotting each of his rivals between six and 10 pounds. The Olympia Joe will be Got Country Grip's first start since Mayo27, when he won the $25,000 National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum Stakes at Remington Park.

With that win, he tied a Quarter Horse-paint record of 14 career wins without a loss. Got Country Grip shares the mark with Josie's Bar, Destiny Drummer, and Pies Royal Request, each of whom lost in their 15th start.

Got Country Grip holds paint racing's world record at 400 yards, achieved when he covered the distance in 19.55 seconds in the $38,700 PSBA Stakes at Remington in April 2006. He will break from post 7 on Saturday under regular rider G.R. Carter Jr.

Got Country Grip, 4, races for Jimmy Maddux, who acquired him as a weanling in a trade deal that included one of his stakes-winning mares. The horse is trained by Brandon Parum.
