Gondolieri ($3.40) wins by three lengths in the $103,782 Inglewood Handicap at Hollywood Park.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Gondolieri defeated three rivals Saturday in the $103,782 Inglewood Handicap at Hollywood Park. Originally scheduled for turf, the mile and a sixteenth race was switched to the main track because of rain, which led to scratches of program favorite Blue Steller and Touch Of The Blues.Gondolieri was bet to 3-5 in the Inglewood, and won by three lengths over second favorite Truly A Judge. Freefourinternet was never in contention and ran third; Leprechaun Kid finished last.

The surface switch will lead to the Inglewood losing its Grade 3 status this year, which hardly matters to the connections of the one-two finishers. Gondolieri and Truly A Judge are geldings. Northern California-based jockey Frank Alvarado filled in for Alex Solis on the winner, who is owned by Nelson Bunker Hunt and trained by Ron McAnally. Gondolieri pressed the pace set by Truly A Judge, challenged for the lead coming off the far turn, and drew off in 1:40.32 over a "wet-fast" track that produced unusually fast times.

The win as the seventh in 10 career starts for Gondolieri, and his first from three starts in the U.S. He finished second in the Grade 2 Arcadia on turf last time, and was third in a dirt stake in his North American debut March 8. Gondolieri returned $3.40.
