Gomez sweeps weekend Quarter Horse stakes with Bac in Front, Forget It

Bac in Front and Forget It gave trainer Jaime Gomez a sweep of the two six-figure Quarter Horse derbies at Los Alamitos over the weekend.

Bac in Front won Friday’s $205,200 La Primera Del Ano Derby for fillies for her fourth consecutive win. Ridden by Carlos Huerta, Bac in Front ($3) won by a head over the 11-1 Take a Look in the field of 10. Bac in Front was timed in 19.91 seconds for 400 yards.

By Foose, Bac in Front is owned by Francisco Vega, who acquired the filly privately from another of Gomez’s clients, James Streelman, last fall. Bac in Front is unbeaten since that race, including two wins in allowance races and a win in a trial for the La Primera on March 14.

In her career, Bac in Front has won 5 of 9 starts and earned $88,673. The La Primera was her first start in a stakes final.

On Saturday, Forget It, co-owned by Gomez and Streelman, won his first stakes in the $175,100 El Primero Del Ano Derby for colts and geldings.

The fastest qualifier from the March 15 time trials, Forget It ($2.80) won the 400-yard El Primero final by 1 1/2 lengths over the 28-1 Koolist, finishing in 19.79 seconds. Ridden by Huerta, Forget It was briefly upset in the gate but settled to take the early lead from the start.

A gelding by Foose, Forget It was third in the Ed Burke Million Futurity last June and seventh in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in December.
Forget It has won 5 of 9 starts and earned $280,003.
