Golden Rahy best in Carleton F. Burke Handicap

ARCADIA, Calif. - A $40,000 claimer outfinished an $85,000 claimer in the Grade 3 on Sunday at Santa Anita. Runner-up in a $40,000 claiming race in his most recent start July 22 at Del Mar, Golden Rahy ($12) rallied from last under Alex Solis to win the mile and one-half Burke by a neck over Wild Buddy. The runner-up was claimed for $85,000 in August.

Golden Rahy, trained by Bobby Frankel and assistant Humberto Ascanio, trailed the six-horse field, angled four-wide into the stretch, and was up late in 2:27.02. It was the fourth career win from 11 starts for Golden Rahy, and his first win since a second-condition allowance Oct. 31, 2003. Wild Buddy, who was expected to set the pace, instead tucked third on the rail, split horses in the lane, and was outfinished. Stage Shy, a 5-year-old mare racing for the first time in a year, finished third. Courtly Jazz, Star Pupil and At Dawn completed the order of finish.
