Golden Hare does what he always does -- win

Golden Hare is taking care of business on the home front while his owner, Scott Blasi, and his trainer, Steve Asmussen, are in Dubai this week with reigning Horse of the Year Curlin.

Golden Hare won his season debut at Will Rogers Downs on Monday, wiring a field of allowance rivals by a length and earning Beyer Speed Figure of 90.

It was the seventh consecutive win for Golden Hare, who led all North American-based horses in wins in 2007 with 14. Blasi, an assistant trainer to Asmussen, claimed Golden Hare for $3,500 in August 2006. All but one of Golden Hare's starts for Blasi had come in starter allowances.

Among Golden Hare's rivals Monday was the multiple stakes winner Distinguish. Golden Hare, 9, set a quick pace in the six-furlong race and ran the distance in 1:09.19. Jose Figueroa was aboard Golden Hare, whose lone venture outside the starter ranks last year resulted in a win in the $47,000 Claiming Crown Express at Ellis Park.
