Passive Income (4) wins the $42,800 North Beach Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday.

Passive Income ($4) took the lead from stablemate Dr. Einstein entering the stretch, and the two pulled away from the field in the $42,800 North Beach Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.

Dr. Einstein set a solid pace and was re-rallying late but couldn't get past Passive Income in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds, shifted from turf to dirt. Passive Income won by a half-length in 1:42.87 over a muddy track. Soft Seventeen was another nine lengths back in third.

"I thought either had a chance to win," said Jerry Hollendorfer, who saddled the top pair.

"I had a lot of horse," said winning jockey Russell Baze. "He tried to run off on the first turn but settled down the backstretch."

Passive Income earned $22,700 for his first stakes victory and second win in seven starts. He boosted his career earnings to $64,900 for owner Dr. George Todaro.
