Golden Gate Fields: Two jockeys fall in finale

Email

ALBANY, Calif. - Jockeys Frank Alvarado and Martin Garcia both fell in Thursday's final race at Golden Gate Fields and were scheduled for precautionary X-rays.

Alvarado was aboard pacesetting Josephine Z, who broke down approaching the 3/8ths pole. Alvarado was able to get up and walk to the ambulance but was scheduled to have his right ankle X-rayed at Valley Care Medical Center in Pleasanton.

Garcia fell at the eighth pole when Areyoulook'nforme clipped heels when Purple Myst came into her path. Garcia lay on the track for several minutes but also was able to walk to the ambulance. He was scheduled for a CAT Scan at Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley after complaining of a headache.

Josephine Z had to be humanely destroyed. Areyoulook'nforme never went down, finished the race and was caught after the finish by an outrider.
