Golden Gate Fields: Power outage not expected to affect racing

Email

ALBANY, Calif. – Racing was expected to resume with no problems Friday as Golden Gate Fields continued to work on restoring full power to the facility.

Problems initially cropped up Thursday, but racing was not affected. The tote board and tote machines were fully operational.

Problems continued overnight, and a lack of power affected some computers on the front side as well as telephone lines. Clockers had to rely on walkie-talkies to communicate with the backstretch during workouts.

Phone lines were restored shortly before 9 a.m. Pacific, and the affected computers also were operational. New fuses were being delivered Friday morning and were to be installed before racing, so Golden Gate Fields officials expected no changes in the regular racing schedule.

No cause for the problems had been determined, although replacement fuses were needed.
