Golden Gate Fields pick six pays $239,000 to three winners


Russell Baze rallied from last with 3-1 third-choice Melanzana to cap a winning pick six of $239,333.60 for three bettors Friday at Golden Gate Fields. After seven consecutive days of carryover, the pick six pool hit $1,059,798 for Friday's wager.

The Friday card began with a $335,167 carryover, and $716,631 was wagered on Friday’s pick six.  The pool would have carried over to Saturday had either Steppinginthelight or Road to the Pulpit won the last race, but they finished fifth and sixth respectively. Steppinginthelight had the lead at the eighth pole.

Baze, who had three winners on the day, started the pick six with a victory in the third race aboard Courtside Action, who paid $5.60 as the only favorite to win a pick ix race.

William Antongeorgi rode Michael the Man ($8.20), the second choice in the wagering, to victory in the second leg.
Jessie’s Knockout ($15), ridden by Jesus Velasquez,was the third leg winner. Emerald Downs import Mattie Blue ($7.20), ridden by Leonel Camacho-Flores, won the fourth leg.
Frank Alvarado rode Decarzia to a $21.20 upset in the fifth leg, and Melanzana paid $8.60 to close out the pick six.

In addition to the three winners, 114 bettors who had five winners earned a $1,439.40 consolation payoff.
