Golden Gate Fields: Hidinginplainsight wins Camila Urso

Hidinginplainsight ($10) turned what looked to be a contentious race into an easy, front-running victory in the $51,650 Camila Urso Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday.

The Elusive Quality filly broke a step slowly from the rail but quickly claimed the lead. She never was seriously challenged and extended her margin through the stretch, winning the six-furlong race by two lengths over Distinctive Yolie, who rallied from seventh in the field of eight.

Cathy’s Crunches, last through the opening quarter, finished third, another 1 1/4 lengths back. The final time for Hidinginplainsight, who scored her second career victory, was 1:10.17.

“I thought there would be more pressure,” said William Antongeorgi III, who got the mount when scheduled rider Aaron Gryder took off because of travel issues. “I figured they’re going to gun, but being down in the 1 hole, I was going to gun harder. I was able to get her settled on the backside when no one really pressured me, and she kicked on for home.”

An $80,000 purchase in May 2001 at Timomium in Maryland, Hidinginplainsight earned $30,450 for her first stakes victory for Blinkers On Racing Stable. She has earned $131,750 with two wins, five seconds and a third in 10 starts.
