Godolphin buys Atomic Rain

Atomic Rain, winner of the Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth Park, has been purchased by Godolphin Racing.

Previously trained by Kelly Breen, Atomic Rain was on target for Monmouth's Grade 1, $1 million Haskell Invitational on Aug. 2.

Now his status for the Haskell is uncertain.

"We have purchased Atomic Rain to race in Dubai this winter, but we will make a decision shortly with regard to his more immediate future," said Simon Crisford, Godolphin's racing manager.

Breen, contacted Wednesday, had no comment pending completion of the deal and instructions on where to ship the colt, who was still in his barn.

Atomic Rain is 3-3-1 in 10 starts. After running 16th in the Kentucky Derby, Atomic Rain rebounded with a pair of wins at Monmouth: a first-level allowance race and the Long Branch.

He is the second 3-year-old George and Lori Hall sold to Godolphin this season. West Side Bernie, the runner-up to I Want Revenge in the Wood Memorial, was sold following a ninth-place finish in the Derby. He has not run since joining Godolphin.
