Go Between wins Fayette battle

EmailGo Between won the Grade 3, $150,000 Fayette, bravely turning back a stretch bid from favored Stream Cat to win his first race on Polytrack by a neck.

Go Between ($9.80), winner of the Grade 2 Virginia Derby last year, stalked the pace in fourth under Miguel Mena, three to four lengths off the early pace set by Kona Blend, and finished powerfully when called upon in the lane.

Stream Cat, a graded stakes winner over Polytrack, was charging hard and appeared poised to outkick Go Between through the final eighth of a mile. But Go Between outbattled Stream Cat to the wire, showing the class that has earned him more than $1.25 million.

Stream Cat finished three-quarters of a length in front of Kona Blend in third. Brass Hat, the 5-2 second choice, ran eighth in a dull performance.

Go Between, a 4-year-old son of Point Given owned by Peter Vegso and trained by Bill Mott, raced 1 1/8 miles in 1:47.97.
