Glorious Smile upsets Blue Mountain Juvenile

Glorious Smile, unable to beat maiden claimers in her first two career starts, picked the right time to deliver a breakthrough performance.

Sent to the lead for the first time in her career by jockey Jose Flores, Glorious Smile ($38.20) sped to a 2 3/4-length victory over even-money favorite Sky Haven in Thursday night's $75,000 Blue Mountain Juvenile for 2-year-old Pennsylvania-bred fillies at Penn National.

Based at Philadelphia Park with trainer Robert Reid, Glorious Smile had come from off the pace to finish second in each of her first two races while running for a $40,000 tag.

In the co-featured $75,000 High Yield Stakes for statebred 2-year-olds, heavily favored Officer Ipod ($3.60) led wire to wire to score by 1 3/4 lengths over 13-1 shot Moonlite Ride.

Ridden by Joe Rocco Jr. for trainer Tony Dutrow, Officer Ipod had a distinct class advantage after finishing second in the Grade 2 Sanford at Saratoga and the Grade 3 Sapling at Monmouth.

Surprisingly, the filly Glorious Smile ran faster than the colt Officer Ipod by nearly two full seconds, completing six furlongs in 1:12.19 compared with Officer Ipod's time of 1:14.01.
