Globetrotter moves into Breeders' Cup picture

EmailGlobetrotter thrust himself into the Breeders' Cup picture with a determined victory over Cool Gator in the $248,150 Grey Breeders' Cup Stakes for 2-year-olds on Monday at Woodbine.

Globetrotter broke slowly under Jeremy Rose, and came from 5 1/2 lengths off a slow early pace in the 1o1/16-mile route. He held off another closer in the stretch, Cool Gator, to score by a head, in a time of 1:46.59.

Trainer Graham Motion, who watched the race from his Fair Hill base in Maryland, said he will consider both the Breeders' Cup Juvenile dirt and turf races later this month at Monmouth Park for Globetrotter, who won his debut over the synthetic surface at Presque Isle Downs on Sept. 10.

"It's something that we're going to talk about," said Motion said. "He's 2 for 2, and considering the way he won - in not a very easy situation - I thought it was a very impressive race."

New York shipper Saada finished another 3 1/2 lengths back in third. Favored Turf War trailed the six-horse field, after lacking room along the inside.

Globetrotter ($20.20) banked $150,000 for owner Earle Mack.

o Financingavailable ($2.80) captured the supporting feature, the $125,400 Classy 'n Smart Stakes, for the second year in a row.

With Jim McAleney aboard, Financingavailable set slow fractions while being stalked by London Snow and Executive Flight. She opened up a daylight lead in the stretch, and won by 3 1/4 lengths over Executive Flight. Blonde Wisdom finished a distant third in the 1 1/16-mile race for Ontario-sired fillies and mares.

Financingavailable, last year's champion older female in Canada, covered the distance in 1:45.78. She earned $75,000 for owner K.K. Sangara and trainer Lorne Richards.
