Global Finance wins Bam's Penny

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Global Finance ($7) added blinkers and got a perfect trip to notch her second stakes victory, winning the $80,000 Bam's Penny Stakes at Bay Meadows on Saturday.

Global Finance, a disappointing second as the 1-to-2 favorite in her comeback in the Courtship Stakes on Sept. 15, broke alertly, stayed behind an early three-way pace duel and pulled away in the stretch to defeat Market Garden by 2.5 lengths in the six-furlong race. Her winning time was 1:11.20.

"She broke real nice," winning jockey Jason Lumpkins said. "I never used her down the backstretch because they told me not to move her early.

"I stayed within a length off them and picked her up about 50 yards from the quarter pole. She almost didn't know what to do when she got in front so quickly."

Market Garden broke slowly and ran into a little traffic trouble at the 3/8ths pole.

"When I got clear, she ran well, but I never thought I had a chance because I got clear too late," Market Garden's jockey Omar Figueroa said.

Global Finance, who won the Nursery Stakes at Hollywood Park on May 11, has three wins and a second in six starts. She earned $44,000 for the victory, lifting her career earnings to $137,450.
