Glitter Ghost steps up in Debutante

Glitter Ghost and Confiding Winner head a field of nine 2-year-old fillies entered in Friday's $50,000 Prairie Meadows Debutante Stakes.

Glitter Ghost steps up into stakes company after scoring an impressive 8 1/2-length debut victory against maiden special weight company at Ellis Park on Aug. 3. A daughter of Glitterman, she led throughout en route to a brisk 1:10.78 clocking for the six furlongs under jockey Sidney LeJeune Jr.

High-percentage trainer Larry Jones trains Glitter Ghost for owners Fred and Nancy Mitchell, and LeJeune will be in for the mount.

Confiding Winner is one of three stakes winners entered in the six-furlong Debutante. Trained by Steve Asmussen, she began her career with two straight wins at Lone Star Park in Texas, including a neck score in the Silver Spur Breeders' Cup on July 14. In her most recent start, Confiding Winner finished eighth, beaten seven lengths, against stakes company at Delaware Park on Aug. 31.

A daughter of Confide, Confiding Winner has had two workouts at Churchill Downs since that effort and is out to rebound on Friday. Donnie Meche, who will ride Confiding Winner for the first time, will be in for the mount.

Iowa-bred Coding may be the top local hope in the Debutante as she enters undefeated in two starts, including a 2 1/2-length score in the Iowa Sorority Stakes versus statebreds here on Aug. 31. Cindy Noll has a return call on Friday for trainer Dave McShane.
