Glenville Gardens, with Luis Contreras aboard, delivers as the favorite in the Display for 2-year-olds.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario—Lukewarm favorite Glenville Gardens went right to the front and kept on going to graduate in style in the $132,250 Display Stakes for 2-year-olds at Woodbine on Saturday.

With Luis Contreras aboard, Glenville Gardens set moderate fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route. Glenville Gardens, a  son of Street Cry,  opened up a clear lead on the far turn, and then coasted home on by 2 ¾ lengths over another promising maiden, Hollywood Critic. Sea to Sea rallied to finish another nose back in third in the five-horse field.

“He broke good, and I took the lead and set the pace I wanted,” said Contreras. “By the quarter pole, I had so much horse, he was gone.”

Glenville Gardens ($5) covered the distance in 1:45.45. He earned $75,000 for Melnyk Racing Stable and trainer Josie Carroll, who was winning the Display for the third time.

Hope this horse is a colt and he goes on to bigger things. Now that Street Cry is gone, we could use another good son of his. Stamina was his game and we need that here in North America.
