'Glen' returns to Louisiana Downs

Email

Candid Glen, who has earned more than $1 million on turf, will make his first start since July 2003 in the fifth race Sunday at Louisiana Downs. The 7 1/2-furlong turf allowance carries an optional claiming price of $40,000.

Candid Glen last raced at Arlington Park, finishing eighth in the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap. He was sidelined with a suspensory injury after that race. Andrew Leggio Jr., who trains Candid Glen, said he had considered the $150,000 Louisiana Downs Handicap last month as the first race back for Candid Glen. But that race was 1 1/16 miles, and Leggio feels that the gelding's fitness level is better suited to 7 1/2 furlongs.

E.J. Perrodin is the regular rider on Candid Glen, a 7-year-old who races for Glen Warren. Candid Glen has won three straight runnings of the $200,000 Connally Breeders' Cup Turf at Sam Houston Race Park, and scored an upset victory in the Grade 2 Mervin Muniz at Fair Grounds.
