Ginger Gold in a romp

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Ginger Gold overwhelmed her opposition in the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes Saturday at Woodbine. The Princess Elizabeth is the country's most prestigious race for Canadian-bred juvenile fillies.

Ginger Gold went right to the front under Richard Dos Ramos and set uncontested fractions of 23.03 seconds and 47.30 in the 1 1/16-mile race. Mulrainy, the even-money favorite, tracked Ginger Gold but never seriously threatened her, and Ginger Gold drew off in the stretch for a 4 1/2-length win.

Gonetofarr finished another 2 3/4 lengths back in third, a half-length in front of a closing What a Breeze. The final time was a stakes record 1:43.48.

"She's the best 2-year-old filly I've ever trained," said Ginger Gold's trainer, Sid Attard. "She's so kind. She does everything right."

Ginger Gold returned $4.90 as the second choice and earned $150,000 for Mel Lawson's Jim Dandy Stable. A daughter of Golden Gear, Ginger Gold has won three of her four starts, all in stakes.
