Get Stormy sires first winner


Multiple Grade 1-winning Get Stormy was represented by his first stakes winner when Get Sassy got up late to win a $34,220 maiden special weight race at Presque Isle Downs on June 16.

Owned by Lloyd Duncan and Blazing Meadows Farm and trained by Timothy Hamm, Get Sassy won the 4 1/2-furlong race by a neck over favored Diamond Dollar at odds of 18.30-1 while making her first start. She earned $21,060 and completed the distance in :52.41.

Bred in Pennsylvania by John R. Penn, Get Sassy was sold for $5,000 as a weanling at the 2014 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

Freshman sire Get Stormy, a son of Stormy Atlantic out of Foolish Gal, by Kiri’s Clown, was best on grass and at a distance of ground as a racehorse. He won 11 of 31 starts while racing from ages 2 to 6 and earned $1,606,812.

He won eight stakes, seven of which were graded, including the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic and Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile in 2011 and the Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap in 2012. He placed in six other stakes. Bred in Kentucky by Mary A. Sullivan, he was campaigned by Sullimar Stable and trained by Thomas Bush.

Get Stormy stands at Crestwood Farm in Lexington, Ky., for a fee of $5,000. He has 70 foals in his first crop and 65 yearlings. He has had seven starters to date.
