BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Get Stormy, a multiple Grade 1 winning turf horse of 2011, worked five furlongs in 1:03.05 over the Palm Meadows turf course Tuesday morning. He is preparing for his 2012 debut, which is expected to come in the Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap on Feb. 11.
Get Stormy and several other horses came on the turf just as the skies opened up and dumped some heavy showers. Though the turf course was labeled firm, divots were popping up all over the place.
"It was a little bit of a fiasco with that rain, but he finished really well the last eighth," trainer Tom Bush said. "It's hard to get a read on it with the rain coming down."
Get Stormy has had four works since finishing 12th of 13 in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Churchill last November.
"I don't know what to tell you about the Breeders' Cup," Bush said. "He's only run two bad races his whole life, and both were in the Breeders' Cup."
Last year, Get Stormy finished third in the Gulfstream Park Handicap before winning both the Maker's Mark at Keeneland and the Turf Classic at Churchill Downs.
