Germans sharp in Milan race

German invaders Well Made and Guadalupe hold the key to the $235,000 Group 1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club & Coppa d'Oro at San Siro in Milan on Sunday.

Well Made is coming off a victory over Salve Regina in the Group 1 Preis von Europa at the Jockey Club distance of 1 1/2 miles. He will appreciate the very soft ground at San Siro, the same type of footing over which he was a six-length winner of the Group 2 Gerling-Preis in May.

Guadalupe has not won since taking the Italian Oaks on May 19, but she was a good fourth in the Prix Vermeille, in which subsequent Prix de l'Opera winner Bright Sky was third. Ekraar was a sharp second last time in the Gran Premio Presidente della Repubblica, but a bigger danger looms in Millenary, who could win if he recaptures the form that brought him the Group 2 Princess of Wales's Stakes in July.

* The one-mile Group 1 Gran Criterium for juveniles is a wide-open race in which Excelsius, the seven-length winner of a San Siro maiden in his debut, may have an edge.
