ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Genius Kinshasa upset the front-running Sand Cove while notching his first stakes in the 35th running of the $125,800 Sir Barton on Wednesday night at Woodbine.

It was the second straight year that Sand Cove lost the mile and a sixteenth Sir Barton as the favorite, despite looking the part of a winner throughout this year's renewal, after setting slow fractions.

Genius Kinshasa raced in third on the backstretch under Emile Ramsammy, who moved him to the rail on the far turn. They began to make up ground on Sand Cove in midstretch, and then wore him down in the final strides to prevail by a length, in a time of 1:44.26.

Society's Chairman rallied from sixth to finish another 2 1/4 lengths back in third in the seven-horse field of Ontario-sired runners.

Genius Kinshasa ($19) collected $75,000 for his owners, Francis Scala Stable and Enza Armata, the wife of trainer Vito Armata.
