Generous Stakes (Div. 2) preview

Hollywood Park - Race 7
Generous Stakes (Grade 3 - second division)
1 Mile (Turf)
Purse $75,000

HOLDIN FOLDIN was reported as "not sold" after failing to reach his 39,000 guinea reserve on October 25, but the three-time winner was probably purchased privately following the Tattersalls auction. He finished a good second in a listed event at Ayr two back, and was flattered when a pair of winners (including a Group 3 winner) emerged from the race. He may have found the soft ground a bit too testing for him last time out in France, and should be a strong pace factor in his first start for Craig Dollase. VAUNT sold for 100,000 guineas at Tattersalls on October 24, and he has been a much-improved runner since being gelded prior to the August 4 race. He's from a mostly speed family, however, and there are some distance questions for him to address. ROMAN COMMANDER can be a bit eager coming out of the gate, but he projects for a good inside stalking trip after breaking from the hedge. He showed improved speed on the Polytrack, and acts like he'll handle the lawn. EDWARDIAN was the beaten favorite in the Pinjara last time out at this distance, but it was a pretty good race considering it was his first start against winners. He has some tactical speed, and should be running hard late. WHATSTHESCRIPT was impressive winning the Pinjara, but must avoid a wide trip from far outside slot. REGAL TIMES has a strong turf pedigree, but gets a major class test. SEVENGOLDNMISSILES can improve off turf debut.

Selections: 1. Holdin Foldin 2. Vaunt 3. Roman Commander
