Gantry, the runner-up in the Grade 3 Commonwealth at Keeneland on April 13, is getting a freshening.

The Louisiana-based Gantry, who was second in the Grade 3 Commonwealth at Keeneland in his last start April 13, is being freshened, according to trainer Ron Faucheux. The horse is based at the Evangeline Downs Training Center near Lafayette, La.

“That last race took a lot out of him,” Faucheux said. “We’re not going to rush him. We’ll give him a little time and freshen him up. We don’t have any targets at this point.”

The Commonwealth was the first synthetic-track start for Gantry. He dueled and finished second to Handsome Mike and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 91. Last year, Gantry won the Grade 2 Smile Sprint Handicap at Calder.

“He handled the Polytrack good,” Faucheux said of the Commonwealth. “We thought he handled it well.”

Faucheux has a 10-horse division at Louisiana Downs for the first time this meet and has a stable at the Evangeline Downs Training Center.
