Gallon up at the end

Gallon, the even-money favorite in a field of seven 3-year-olds, got up in the final strides to post a neck decision over 18-1 shot Fear No Evil in Sunday's $50,000 Tacoma Handicap at a mile. Margo's Gift, the 5-2 second choice, finished 2 1/2 lengths farther back in third.

Rider Juan Gutierrez had Gallon in fifth position early while Fear No Evil set the pace, but the winner was second after six furlongs in 1:10.40 and gradually wore down the pacesetter through the stretch to prevail in 1:36.60. It was the third win from nine starts for Gallon, who is trained by Jim Penney. Gallon, a Kentucky-bred son of Victory Gallop, earned $27,500 for owners Mike and Amy Feuerborn and increased his career bankroll to $128,765.
