Gallant Son grabs WTBA Lads victory


AUBURN, Wash. - Gallant Son split rivals at the top of the stretch, then outfinished Rooster City to prevail by three-quarters of a length in Saturday’s $50,000 WTBA Lads stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings at Emerald Downs. Noosa Beach got up for third in a field of eight.

Gallant Son, a Malabar Gold colt who races for Chris and Dianna Randall, got the one-mile distance in 1:37.20 under Gallyn Mitchell, who was notching his fourth of five wins on the 10-race card. Gallant Son paid $7.60 to win as the second choice in the wagering and earned $27,225. It was the third straight win from four starts for Gallant Son, who is trained by Frank Lucarelli.
