Gabe's Prospect short price

Email

EDMONTON, Alberta - After a pair of less than spectacular performances going up against the best fillies in western Canada, Gabe's Prospect will be odds-on to get back into the win column when she takes on six rivals in a $40,000 optional claiming event on Saturday at Northlands Park.

Trained by Kelly Grieves, Gabe's Prospect looked especially impressive this spring when she won her maiden and then strung together a three-race win streak that included the $75,000 Penny Ridge at Stampede Park.

Gabe's Prospect then finished second in the $100,000 North-lands Oaks before being sent off as the 3-2 favorite in the $100,000 Sonoma. Despite the heavy backing, Gabe's Prospect was never a factor in that race, breaking fourth in the five-horse field and remaining in that position throughout.

In her most recent start, Gabe's Prospect tried older fillies and mares in the City of Edmonton Distaff but found the competition far too tough, as she finished last, beaten by 11 1/2 lengths.

With her stakes success and earnings in excess of $90,000 this year, Gabe's Prospect looks better than her competition in Saturday's one-mile feature.

Gabe's Prospect, with Quincy Welch in the irons, will be coupled in the wagering with Sassy Sarah.

The rest of the field seems well matched, but the principal competition for the favorite should come from British Columbia transplant Autumn Mist.
