Fussy's Kid tries to win from outside

CALGARY, Alberta - Fussy's Kid drew the outside post in a field of nine optional claimers in the $20,300 six-furlong feature race here Wednesday evening.

Fussy's Kid, a 6-year-old, was unable to overcome front-running Sweet Drummer in his seasonal debut two weeks ago as the favorite in a similar race.

Perry Winters retains the call aboard Fussy's Kid and will be forced to use his mount's tactical speed in an effort to gain position in the run to the first turn.

His main rivals from off the pace include Turbo Charger, a closing second behind Timely Ruckus last time out in a six-furlong race run in 1:10.40, and Klondike Trail, who loomed menacingly and hung in his third start back after missing all of 2002.

Eternal Secrecy wins

Eternal Secrecy ($15.50) was an upset winner of the $40,000 Teeworth Plate here Sunday, defeating defending champion Sixthirtyjoe by 4 1/2 lengths. Favored Tyko Tycoon finished well beaten in fourth after setting the early pace.

Trainer Robertino Diodoro had Eternal Secrecy ready first time out this year. Under jockey Leanne Painter, Eternal Secrecy stalked Tyko Tycoon through fractions of 23.80 seconds and 47.20 in the one-mile handicap.

When Tyko Tycoon, who had broken a step slowly, gave way at the top of the turn for home, Eternal Secrecy pounced and won drawing off. He completed the mile in 1:36.20, the best time at this course since Roll on Briartic set the course record of 1:35.40 in 1989.
