ALTOONA, Iowa - Frozen Angel, making his third start within 30 days, scored a 1 1/2-length victory in Saturday's $70,000 John Wayne Stakes at Prairie Meadows. It was the third time owner Sandra Rasmussen of River Ridge Ranch has won the stakes.

"When you planned a mating, foaled a horse, and raised them, and then this, this is really something," said Rasmussen of Frozen Angel, a 5-year-old homebred son of Devil His Due.

Jockey Glen Murphy positioned Frozen Angel in third behind swift fractions of 21.83 and 44.87 seconds set by 41-1 longshot Sharkiowa. Frozen Angel ($6.80) got within a half-length of the tiring leader with a furlong remaining and drew clear, completing six furlongs in 1:10.21.

Crimson King Cat, the 6-5 favorite, rallied to take second place by a head over C S I Iowa.

Trainer Mike Natale has started Frozen Angel three times in the last 30 days. The horse won a statebred allowance race on April 24 and finished second in a conditioned allowance race on May 3 prior to Saturday's stakes for Iowa-breds. Frozen Angel has now won 4 of 17 starts and $145,212.
