Frost Giant’s fee rises to $10,000 for 2014

Grade 1-winning sire Frost Giant will stand the 2014 breeding season for an advertised fee $10,000 at Keane Stud in Amenia, N.Y.

The 10-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway stood the previous season for a fee of $7,500. He set an earnings record for a first-crop sire in New York last year, and is currently the leading second-crop sire in the Empire State.

Frost Giant has sired two crops of racing age, led by stakes winners West Hills Giant, Frosty Bay, Kelli Got Frosty, and Grade 3-placed winner Giant Finish, who ran in the 2013 Kentucky Derby.

“With his progeny continuing to perform superbly, we are looking forward to bigger crops in the future and to providing him with more and more high-quality mares. We wanted to keep his fee attractive and reasonable while also reflecting the achievements of his offspring,” said owner Andrew Cohen of Sunset Stables.

Frost Giant won four of 15 starts during his racing career for earnings of $454,630. He began his career racing in Ireland, where he won the Group 3 Kilternan Stakes and Killavullan Stakes, and was shipped to the U.S., where he won the Grade 1 Suburban Handicap.

Bred in Kentucky by J.M.J Stables Corporation, Frost Giant is out of the unplaced Gone West mare Takesmybreathaway, and is a sibling to stakes winner Breathless Storm and Grade 3-placed Heavy Breathing. He is from the family of champion Rhythm and notable sires Not for Love and Mutakddim.
