French Park has been eliminated from consideration for the Kentucky Oaks because of an ankle chip and has been scratched from the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager after $120 was bet on the filly Thursday, the first of four days of Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby and Oaks futures. Trainer Helen Pitts informed Churchill Downs officials late Thursday that French Park would have surgery Friday to remove the chip, which is not career-threatening. Pitts said French Park, winner of the Pocahontas and Golden Rod last fall at Churchill, would be out about 60 days. Meanwhile, as of 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday, $75,786 had been bet into the Derby futures, with Lawyer Ron the 5-1 favorite over Discreet Cat (7-1) and Barbaro (8-1). In the Oaks futures, Balance was the 5-2 favorite over Wild Fit (8-1) after $8,640 had been bet. The Derby futures close Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern, and the Oaks futures close 30 minutes later.
