Freetobeme Lumm's latest

AUBURN, Wash. - Freetobeme shoots for her fourth win in her last five starts when she takes on six other 3-year-old fillies in Friday's best race at Emerald Downs, a $20,000 claiming affair at six furlongs.

Freetobeme goes for the familiar trainer-jockey combination of Roy Lumm and Sandi Gann, who have had great success together with win machines Colterkind and Rightbyu over the past couple of years. Freetobeme is threatening to join the ranks of those two, as her three wins this year have come by a minimum of five lengths and she broke slowly when favored at 4-5 in her lone loss.

In her most recent try on July 3, Freetobeme drew off to score by more than six lengths over $12,500 company after 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.20. That gave her three wins from four starts since being claimed by Lumm for Blue Diamond Stable and Janet Jackson for a $16,000 tag in November at Golden Gate.

Though she will be stepping up and meeting other speed on Friday, Freetobeme should be given the utmost respect because of Lumm's remarkable record with other claims. They include Rightbyu, who has now won 6 of 8 starts while moving from the $3,200 level to the $32,000 plateau for Lumm.

Among Freetobeme's more formidable opponents are Zairsaplan, who comes off a sharp maiden win over $32,000 company, and Silver Shot, who will be dropping from the $32,000 level after racing for the first time in 13 months June 14. Last year at 2, Silver Shot scored her maiden win at the maiden special weight level at Santa Anita before finishing fourth in the $65,000 Nursery Stakes at five furlongs at Hollywood Park.
